On Friday 7 February, we held our second ‘poetry slam’ as part of National Storytelling Week. Each class told the story of their current learning through poetry, performing in front of the full academy community. Part of the National Curriculum is for children to learn poems by heart and recite them and our poetry slam is such a fun way to do this.

Our previous winners from Foundation 2 performed a fairy tale rhyme, with some rapping and a Queen of Hearts from Year 1! Year 2 gave us some Grumpy Grandmas, with evacuees in Year 3, a rotating London Eye poem by Year 5, and George and the Dragon with glitter from Year 6.  There were wonderful performances from everyone, but our winners this time were our Year 4 Pullman class performing ‘On the Ning Nang Nong’ including accompaniment from musical instruments!

Well done to all children – we had a great time watching you perform and can’t wait to see what you produce next time.
