In the lead up to the VE Day celebrations this Friday, some of the children of key workers still attending the academy had a Samuel Barlow Primary history lesson as they got to see the school log books from wartime.
These fabulous artefacts have beautiful handwritten notes that outline key milestones for the school during World War II. Most pertinent to this week’s celebrations are the lines in the log book from 1945 that detail when war was over in Europe… ‘School closed for two days for victory celebrations’.
A wonderful experience to see such a piece of history ahead of the nation marking the 75th anniversary of this day
