Children from our foundation stage have this term been doing a lot of exciting activities outside as part of a collaborative Forest Schools project with our foundation stage and the local SureStart.

Sixteen pupils have been working on building their skills in communication, language, listening together with developing their attention and teamwork skills. The sessions took place with SureStart for an hour a week on a Thursday where they got their wellies and coats on and went onto the academy field to get muddy!

Activities included den making, whittling, making bird feeders out of pine cones, painting with mud, having stories outside, learning about plants and nature, planting vegetables (that they then took home), making headbands using paper and leaves, using natural materials such as grass, soils and leaves in the mud kitchen…. lots of really great experiences!

The children have loved every second of this project! Miss Prosolek, foundation teacher, says ‘all of the children have made a substantial improvement in their teamwork and communication skills. Although Forest Schools has only run for this last half term I have seen first-hand how beneficial it is and how much the children have enjoyed this!’

Thank you to SureStart for their support of our pupils, and well done to all children involved.
