Started in September 2023, Samuel Barlow Primary Academy has been getting the ‘Premier League’ treatment as Nottingham Forest Community Trust launched their Primary Stars programme across the district.

Supported by Newark and Sherwood District Council through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the project uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to develop key skills and live healthier lifestyles through participation in physical education, enhanced learning opportunities and social action initiatives.

Principal, Sarah Kahler, says: “We are very lucky to have Tom from Nottingham Forest FC visit us once per week delivering quality PE sessions, training our play leaders and hosting our after-school sports club.”

“Tom also runs intervention sessions with groups of children for social, emotional and mental well-being to promote their self-esteem.”

Sarah added, “The programme has been a huge success already, the children and staff are so motivated by the visits and there is a real buzz around the academy. We are very excited to continue working with Nottingham Forest Football Club in the next academic year.”

Through the proven programme, the Trust can empower more young people to adopt healthier lifestyles whilst improving educational outcomes through combining physical education with academic learning opportunities. We may even be lucky enough to have a visit from Premier League players too!
